The why and the how of our packaging
A minimal impact on the environment and maximum benefit for the consumer: that’s what we aim for when producing our packaging. The fact is that plastic affects the environment, but on the other hand, our packaging certainly has a functional purpose. Our soft plastic is also 100% recyclable. That’s why Ovidias strives for a packaging that combines the best of both worlds.
Combining functionality and ecology
It’s not easy to find the right balance between functionality and ecology. We want to do what’s best for the environment and for you, the consumer. The most important thing is to understand that the idea of packaging goes beyond its environmental impact. After all, our packaging has some really important other functions:
- The individual freshpacks protect our chocolates against condensation and bacteria, thus extending their shelf life. This extended shelf life reduces food waste, which is a positive thing for the environment – knowing that the environmental impact of food waste and plastics are more or less the same.
- Another important factor is food safety. The individual freshpacks make sure that your hand is the first to touch these chocolates, which guarantees maximum hygiene. That’s why Ovidias holds the IFS, BRC and ACG quality standard certificates. This means that our systems meet the strictest standards of the current legislation on food.

Reuse of our packaging
We send out our chocolates in a special transport wrapping. This wrapping offers a maximum protection during transport, which means less waste afterwards. We use a Styrofoam box; this is a mono material consisting of one type of material, which makes it extremely suitable for recycling. It’s also groundwater neutral. The cooling elements contribute to the chocolates’ longer shelf life and can be frozen afterwards. That way you can reuse both the box and the cooling elements on warm days.
